  • Story Text: Legendary dance DJ, who's remixed tracks for Britney Spears, The Killers and Justin Timberlake, plays open-air gig.
    A wax statue at Madame Tussaud's. A memorabilia case at Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Playing for a crowd of 200,000 on a beach in Brazil. Voted Number One DJ in the world by MixMag Magazine three times. Selling out two 25,000 ticket Amsterdam shows in less then two hours. It sounds like the resume of a classic rock band or red-hot pop star. But it actually belongs to a DJ/Producer: Dutch phenomenon Tiësto.
    The accolade of successes just goes on and on with Tiesto. On Friday (July 31) the Dutch DJ did another first - he headlined a Victoria Park concert in London and played a set for hundreds of people:
    "It's a big deal for me, it's the first time that a DJ actually does this , to open in Victoria Park, a lot of legendary bands have played here like Radiohead, Oasis, and now it's my turn, and I've prepared a great set for everybody and the weather is amazing, I'm very blessed I think."
    He added that playing in front of huge crowds was an amazing feeling:
    "Yeah it's a phenomenal feeling, it's like being in front of a sea of people, you see people everywhere and it's like 'are they here for me?' wow you know! Tiesto started out as trance DJ but about nine years ago started to mix different musical genres resulting lately in high-profile collaborations with the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and even Madonna.
    "I have different kind of criteria, the Britney Spears thing is more like profile-wise it reaches so many people and it's good for your name to do, the Justin Timberlake...actually his producer Timbaland, he was a big fan of me so he asked me...that's really cool, and then I just saw in Billboard last week Madonna is in the top ten , that's a track of mine so that's great , I like doing remixes of bands now that I'm really into, like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Bloc Party , I really like that kind of music now."
    Born in Holland, Tiesto is virtually self-taught and managed to get to the top of DJing with a residency in Ibiza and the possibility to play pretty much anywhere in the world. He even has his own Mme Tussaud wax figure. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2007 and headlined Coachella and Bonnaroo Festivals in 2008.
    "For me the top recognition is not about awards or a certain gig , it's more in general what I achieved in life and where I am today, I am so grateful that I can play for so many people around the world, everybody seems to care what I do...I can go to New York, I can go to Bali, I can go to Sydney and so many people come to my shows and love the music, that's the biggest achievement ...award is just an award, it's like yes thank you it's a compliment but...that's for me the most important thing."
    Tiesto is just about to embark on an 18 month world tour which takes him pretty much anywhere. North America will be the kickoff, with more dates around the world to be announced soon.
    In his latest project, he joins forces with Australian electro pop-stars Sneaky Sound System for the new single, 'I Will Be Here'. It will be released in the UK on 15th September, 2009
