- Story Text: Hundreds of soccer fans gathered in Rio de Janeiro, to watch the Champions League final on Saturday (May 22).
At a Copacabana beachside party organized by Heineken, the tournament's sponsor, soccer fans laid on the ground watching the big screen television.
The crowd reacted as Argentina's Diego Milito scored two goals, giving Inter Milan its first victory in 45 years.
Italian Angelo DiCampli said it was one of the happiest days of his life.
"After my marriage and the birth of my child, it is the best day in my life," he told a reporter. "My 65-year-old father, who is at home now, has been waiting for this day to come for 45 years and it has finally arrived."
While clearly disappointed, Bayern Fan, Fritz Bismarck, was philosophical.
"I think Bayern was the better team - we had a ball possession of 70 percent - but the problem is that in soccer you have to make the goals to win and today Inter Milan has Milito, " he said.
Brazilian soccer fans kept their eyes on Inter's three Brazilian players who are headed to the World Cup: goalie Julio Cesar and defenders Lucio and Maicon.
The South American giant, a perennial favorite at the World Cup, has won two of the last four finals. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
