- Story Text: The wold's largest draped flag, a massive version of the Jerusalem Municipality's flag, went on display Thursday (September 17), as volunteers unfolded only a quarter of the seemingly endless cloth at a soccer stadium in Jerusalem.
The flag -- 43,404 square metres (142,402 square feet), with the largest emblem of a lion ever sewed in its centre -- was certified by the Guinness book of World Records on April 10, 2009, when it was first unfurled in the Philippines.
Being about four times larger than the soccer stadium where the flag was unfolded, organisers chose to expose only the centre of the gigantic fabric.
Initiator of the project, 48-year-old Filipino businesswoman Grace Galindez Gupana, told Reuters that she had created the flag in order to express her love to Jerusalem.
"This is the most expensive flag in the whole world. Most expensive. And I declare today victory, victory for Israel and victory for Jerusalem. Happy New Year to all the Israel in the whole wold," said Gupana, who is also the Founder-President of the Halleluyah Kingdom of Jerusalem Foundation (HKJF).
Gupana said that the $120,000 (USD) project was carried out by six people who produced the flag in 120 days. It weighs 9.5 tons, and will be displayed first in Israel before it goes on tour later this year around the world.
Gupana holds seven Guinness records, including the construction of the largest stone tablets displaying the Ten Commandments. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
