- Story Text: British Foreign Secretary William Hague visited the Libyan city of Benghazi on Saturday (June 4) for talks with opposition figures and to show support for the opposition fighting to oust Muammar Gaddafi from power.
He is the first British minister to visit the rebel stronghold.
On arrival, he walked through one of Benghazi's main squares with his colleague, the British Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell.
Mr Hague talked to several local people, including a woman.
At the same time as their walkabout, a funeral procession began for a rebel victim of the conflict, with people chanting, "The blood of the martyrs won't go to waste".
Mr Hague's surprise visit to Libya came just hours after British apache attack helicopters flew their first mission over the country. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
