- Story Text: An Argentine troupe holds their interactive theatre show "Fuerza Bruta" and excites Manila crowd. .
A troupe from Buenos Aires entertained Manila on Tuesday (February 21) with an unconventional theatre show that integrates aerial stunts, heavy techno music and a 360 degree audience interaction.
The show entitled Fuerza Bruta, a Spanish term for "Brute Force", is an avant-garde theatre performance that has no dialogue or story, but takes the audience in an emotional and physical ride with its unusual stage play and music.
"The idea of the director is to go straight to the body and not think about it. There are narratives, but the spectator makes half of the narrative," said assistant director and performer Juan Oztan.
Surprise was the main element of the show as audiences were led inside a dimly lit, empty tent without any idea of what will be happening.
Cast members jumped, flipped and smashed their props at the unsuspecting crowd, while beckoning the audiences to dance along the heavy techno music and join the show.
Oztan said the group wanted to deviate from the conventional theatric experience and take the audience directly into the show.
"We know what we really do not want to do anymore. We don't want something flat. We don't want to have separation between the audience and the performers," he said.
Audiences were amazed by the 45 foot clear-bottom tilting pool hovering above the stage as women danced and played on the puddles of water on top of the glass.
"It's very interactive. You can actually touch and feel the artists. That's what makes it different. It's very exciting, and hopefully we can watch it again,"
Filipino comedian and actress Cacai Bautista did not understand the show, but had fun watching it.
"It's fun. They're doing crazy stuff. It's interactive. it's something unusual, something crazy," said recruiting agency employee Geraldine Libatique.
The show originated in Argentina in 2005 and has been performed in major cities in the United States, London, Mexico, Russia and Taiwan.
They will hold their daily performance in Manila for five weeks before heading back to Argentina in March. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
