- Story Text: Atletico de Madrid and Panathinaikos prepare to face each other in Champions League third qualifying round.
Atletico Madrid prepared on Monday (August 24) to face Panathinaikos in the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round on August 25.
Atletico lead 3-2 after their first leg in Athens on Wednesday (August 19).
Atletico coach Abel Resino said if Atletico play with same spirit displayed in Athens then qualification should not be a problem.
"Atletico de Madrid have never depended so much on their resources. I think if tomorrow Atletico go out onto the field with the same concentration, with the same attitude they showed in Athens, together with the support of their fans then tomorrow Atletico should have no problem qualifying," he said at a news conference.
The Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero said that is going to be a difficult match.
"It's a very difficul champions league match and nothing is secure. As I said, tomorrow Panathinaikos will come at us with everything and we have to go out to the pitch as we did in Athens with our full strength. We have to try to play our game well and then we should continue to do well," he said.
Greek soccer team Panathinaikos trained in Madrid with prominent player Giorgos Karagounis out of the game with an injured foot.
Panathinaikos coach Henk Ten Cate said Karagounis being injured put a strain on his team.
"Karagounis is one of our most experienced players, who always does very well in the Champions League. But we have a very wide-ranging squad with many young players who may not have the experience but have heart," he said.
Ten Cate said that the forest fires raging around Athens had disrupted the team's preparations.
"Not only psychologically. We have a player who lives close to the forest fires. And he is a bit nervous, that is normal. Yesterday we could not train because the air was very dirty and our doctor told us not to train," he added. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
