Prime Minister Banharn Silpa-archa gave an address of thanksgiving as government colleagues, four former prime ministers and hundreds of government and palace officials looked on. Meanwhile the gates of Klong Prem prison in northern Bangkok swung open and beaming prisoners stepped out to freedom.
