- Story Text: Malaysian Kung Fu expert pierces four coconuts with his finger in just over 30 seconds breaking his personnal record.
Malaysian Kung Fu expert, Ho Eng Hui, pierced four coconuts with his finger in just over 30 seconds on Saturday (June 20) in the historic city of Malacca, breaking his own personnel record.
The 57-year-old Master, known as Master Ho or Ho Sifu (in Cantonese), will apply to enter his feat in the Guinness Book of World Records. One of Guinness' requirements one is to break as many coconuts as possible in less than one minute, Ho currently holds the Malaysian record.
It took Master Ho exactly 30.81 seconds to break four coconuts with his right index finger.
For a moment it looked like Master Ho might abandon the challenge after seemingly hurting his finger after the third coconut, but he managed to break the fourth coconut to the delight of the crowd gathered on Jonker street, a popular tourist spot in Malacca.
Master Ho's previous record was set in 2001 when he broke three coconuts in 1 minute and 10 seconds. The record remained unchallenged until Saturday.
Tourists who witnessed the event were impressed but also puzzled with Master Ho's performance.
"I don't know what's in his finger, I don't know how he does it but its truly amazing," said Stephanie Shull, a tourist from United States.
"Really very amazing, I don't think so that maybe he has to be very strong mind, something like that," said Monica Rasco, a Spanish tourist.
Master Ho, who made a living with his coconut piercing performances, was set to retire last May, but now says he is ready to continue a few more years.
"Able to break four coconuts, I feel very happy, I feel proud to break the record for Malaysia," he said.
Many in the crowd were curious to take a closer look at Master Ho's finger, it became slightly deformed in 1993 when he broke it during a show in Singapore, almost side-lining his career. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
