- Story Text: The Conda indigenous tribe paid tribute on Thursday (December 1) to the victims of the LAMIA Airlines plane crash, which virtually wiped out the Brazilian Chapecoense soccer squad earlier this week. The ceremony took place at the Arena Conda stadium in the Brazilian city of Chapeco that was named after the tribe.
A Conde indigenous tribe member, Elieu Inacio, said they had come to show solidarity.
"Our community along with all of Brazil is in mourning, we are very sad, this is a very sad time and a time of loss. It is a time of anguish. We have come here to express our solidarity and to share our fighting spirit," he said.
Fans continued to mourn the victims of the plane accident at the stadium by leaving flowers and tributes.
Mourners are now camping out at the stadium, including Fernando America Ribero.
"This is not something that is minor for us, this is a lot for us and above all else for our team, our players, our forever champions. We are here to offer our support and we will be here until they are returned to us here," Ribero said.
Bolivian authorities on Thursday suspended the license of a tiny charter airline whose plane crashed in Colombia this week after apparently running out of fuel, killing 71 people and wiping out the Brazilian soccer team on its way to a regional cup final.
Monday night's disaster sent shock waves across the global soccer community and plunged Latin America's largest nation, Brazil, into mourning as it also reels from a deep recession and political crisis. The small Chapecoense team was travelling to the biggest game in its history, the final of the Copa Sudamericana.
Colombian investigators said the crash might have resulted from lack of fuel on the plane operated by charter airline LAMIA Bolivia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
