- Story Text: Jon Bon Jovi and his band started their European tour for their latest album 'Have a Nice Day' in the German city of Duesseldorf on Saturday night (May 13).
Some 50,000 fans attended the two and a half-hour show at the sold-out LTU Arena soccer stadium, listening to songs both from the newest album and classics such as 'Livin' on a Prayer', 'Keep the Faith' and 'It's my Life'.
Bon Jovi said the excitement of playing live hasn't faded after more than 20 years of touring.
"I think the idea is that it's a circus wire without a net," he told Reuters Television in an interview. "You're walking on that highwire and there is no second takes. Anything can happen and that adrenaline is what keeps you going. You don't know how the audience is going to react, I don't know what I'll be doing next, if the show is going to be longer than was anticipated or shorter. You just don't know what's going to happen. That's the fun because everything you do is just live."
Looking back at his career so far, Bon Jovi said:
"First of all, I think that we all became much better players, writers, performers but if you don't get better after doing this for 23 years you shouldn't have done it in the first place," he said. "I like to think that our songwriting became much more succinct. There is social issues we could address, there is political overtones that we could address and there is personal ones too. So you use it in a way that mirrors your own life but you could use it to your advantage, whatever subject matter it is that you want to discuss. I've been able to utilise it when I choose to."
