- Story Text: Italian designers will crown the first Miss Digital World Virtual models have stolen the spotlight from their human counterparts in videogames and films. Now an international competition wants to honour digital babes who could be re -defining the current concept of a beauty pageant.
Miss Digital World is aimed at digital artists, advertising agencies, cinema production companies and videogame programmers who have created famous (or even not so famous) virtual models, following the success of videogame heroines such as Lara Croft, digital anchorwomen like Ananova and cloned actors, as in the third Matrix film.
The competition is the brainchild of Italian designer Franz Cerami.
"This is the first beauty contest totally dedicated to digital models," said Cerami. "I think it is a period that people are very interested in beauty and of course digital technology allows an interactivity, giving you a lot of possibilities: you can interact with these models. When we came up with this idea a year and a half ago, we didn't imagine that in just six months it could become such a success as it has becomes. We have received hundreds of models from around the world -- Iran, Pakistan, U.S.A, Europe, Latin America."
Cerami said one of virtual models in the top ten categories is based on a real human being.
"Now the first one in the top ten is a model from Chile called Katty Ko and the story is interesting because she really exists, " Cerami said.
"She is a real actress of a telenovela called Tentacion, the husband re-made her virtually and the audience of the telenovela go crazy for her. And now she is the first."
Miss Digital World will have all contestants strut their stuff along a virtual catwalk. The model who has the highest number of votes from internet visitors to the pageant's website will be crowned Miss Digital World.
Virtual models may be scantilly-clad - but the future Miss Digital World needs a reputation that's lily-white.
Pageant organizers say the Miss Digital World candidates will be disqualified if they ever had a part, even as an extra or cameo, in a naughty pornographic film. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
