- Story Text: The hard-living, tragedy-crossed heavy metal band Motley Crue received the 2,301st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday (January 25) in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the band's founding.
Band members Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx were on hand for the ceremony in front of the Musicians Institute.
"I was noticing that we have the Erotic Museum and Fredricks right here so I think is a perfect place for the star what do you guys think?" Sixx said.
Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, Motley Crue has survived internal turmoil, several departures and breakups to sell more than 40 million albums worldwide and be one of the top touring groups.
"Who loves you more then anything in the whole world? I love you guys thank you this is... incredible... I got a star on Hollywood Boulevard...!" Lee told his fans.
Motley Crue is responsible for such iconic singles as "Smokin' in the Boys Room," "Girls Girls Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood."
The group has had more than its fair share of tragedies. Neil was involved in a 1984 auto collision that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle Dingley. A decade later, Neil's daughter, Skylar Neil, died from cancer.
Sixx nearly died from a heroin overdose in 1987. Mars suffers from a degenerative back condition. Randy Castillo, who became the group's drummer in 1999 when Lee embarked on a solo career, died of cancer in 2002.
In the 1990s, the group drew attention not just for its music but also for the women in the lives of its members. Lee, who had been married to Heather Locklear, and Sixx married former Playboy Playmates and "Baywatch" stars -- Pamela Anderson and Donna D'Errico, and Neil married former Playboy centerfold Heidi Mark.
The Lee-Anderson saga has included an on-again off-again marriage, a very public X-rated sex video which has made the drummer a bit of a legend amongst his fans.
"Tommy Lee is my favorite... Because he is good at two things he is good with the sticks and it looks like he is pretty good in the sack," said Motley Crue fan Denise Beckley. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
