- Story Text: Two Belarussian strongmen Kirill Shimko and Pavel Soroka claim they have set a world record by pulling a World War II Soviet-made T-34 tank more than five metres.
The event took place in a memorial park 26 kilometres outside the Belarussian capital Minsk. The park, called "The Line of Stalin", commemorates those who died defending Minsk against German forces during World War II.
Shimko and Soroka pulled the tank a distance of five metres and 10 centimetres, using a combination of rope harnesses and ladders fixed to a concrete pavement, to gain leverage.
"We've already pulled a train of five carriages weighing 250 tonnes, an Ilyushin-36 cargo aircraft and Boeing 737 which we pulled individually. And now, it's incredible, we've managed to pull a T-34 tank.
This is the first time in the world, a fact that speaks for itself,"
strongman Shimko told journalists after the record attempt, in May.
The tank was assembled from parts salvaged from vehicles destroyed during World War II in Belarus.
The record was witnessed by the Interstrong international records club which awarded the two strongmen gold medals, trophies and diplomas certifying the record. Interstrong says it will apply for recognition of the record by the World Guinness Book of Records. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
