- Story Text: British rock bands Oasis, Blur and Pulp exchanged musical instruments for soccer boots on Sunday (May 12) to raise money at a charity football competition in London's East End.
The Music Industry Soccer Six championship, now in it's second year, attracted thousands of screaming girls and the sight of heroes Liam Gallacher of Oasis and Robbie Williams in shorts proved too much for some with several pitch invasions delaying play.
In a tense first round match Oasis lost out to Pulp 2-1.
Despite Liam's elegant play, Pulp with a bit of extra help from Robbie Williams, took a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Oasis pulled one goal back in the second half as substitute Jarvis Cocker failed to gell with his Pulp teammates. But it was not enough.
Contrary to constant media speculation surrounding competition between Oasis and Blur, singer Damon Albarn chatted amicably with Gallacher during a break in play.
Footballing skills failed to match musical talents, however, and Oasis, Pulp and Blur failed to get passed the early stages of the tournament.
The trophy was siezed by Rockers Reef who defeated last year's winners, Apollo 440 in the final. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
