- Story Text: The crisis of Brazil's ailing Varig airline, gave way to quite an unexpected Playboy magazine edition. The traditional men's magazine launched on Monday (September 4) its September edition with three of the airline's flight attendants who lost their jobs, showing what they used to hide under their uniforms.
In the local edition of the magazine which hit stands on Tuesday (September 5), the women pose semi-dressed in Varig-like uniforms on an airport tarmac, then take off all but their hats and handkerchiefs for a series of nude shots inside a plane.
According to the magazine's chief editor, Edson Aran, Playboy found the airline's best airplanes, as beautiful women are also called in Brazil.
"We were able to get Varig's three best airplanes. Varig's best fleet is here today," he said.
Aran also said the magazine saw an opportunity to explore a common fetish men have with flight attendants.
PatrÃcia Kreusburg, who is still on a sick leave, said she will most probably be fired when her period of disability ends.
"I'm in a sick leave, so I wasn't fired yet, but after the INSS (taxes over performed services) becomes over due, I will probably be fired," she said.
Juliana Knop, who also posed for the magazine, believes the photographic rehearsal was good for the airline's image, rather than harmful.
"For sure we're not denigrating (airline Varig's), in the contrary, I think we are boosting the spirit, especially of our colleagues because here, today, are present many friends and colleagues. After so many sad things, we are celebrating together," said the former flight attendant.
Brazil's flagship airline, Varig, was saved from bankruptcy by a Brazilian-U.S. company that bought it in July, but some 5,500 employees lost their jobs. Editors of the Playboy in Brazil, decided to follow the steps of their United States partners, who published naked pictures of Enron employees after the giant energy company collapsed. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
