- Story Text: Turkey will intensify talks with Russia and other countries involved in the Syria crisis on opening a corridor to evacuate civilians from the city of Aleppo, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday (December 13).
He told a joint news conference with his Czech counterpart Lubomir Zaoralek that a ceasefire was needed to allow civilians to flee opposition-held districts of the city.
"We always come up with concrete proposals, but we have seen that many countries were not sincere. We have seen that they left Aleppo on its own. We have seen that they brutally continue to bombard Aleppo, despite their promises of a ceasefire. A ceasefire must go into effect as soon as possible to evacuate civilians from the city," Cavusoglu said.
Earlier, a senior Turkish official speaking on condition of anonymity said Turkey was negotiating with Russia to open a corridor to evacuate Syrian rebel fighters and civilians from the remaining opposition-held districts of Aleppo, but that no agreement had yet been reached. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
