- Story Text: European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said on Monday (November 28) that "a lot of progress" had been made on the second review of Greece's eurozone bailout and that he expected it would be concluded soon.
"We are working closely with the Greek authorities on the second review (of the Greek bailout) and it must be said that a lot of progress has been done. So we are assessing measures Greek authorities are putting in place for both (the) 2017 budget but also for the 2018 (budget) to ensure that the medium term primary surplus target of 3.5% of GDP is being reached," Dombrovskis, who oversees euro affairs, told a news conference.
He said, however, that he could not be sure that this would happen as early as a meeting in Brussels of eurozone finance ministers at the beginning of next week.
"Indeed one can expect that in the foreseeable future we will be able to close the second review. I would not give now any specific date or forecast whether it can be done or ready during the next Eurogroup but indeed work is progressing and I would say things are broadly on track," Dombrovskis said.
Greece is financing itself from eurozone loans under its third bailout deal with the single currency area and to get subsequent tranches, it needs to show it is implementing agreed reforms under a process called a review. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
