- Story Text: The twentieth edition of the Kielce Military Fair attracted around 400 exhibitors from 29 countries. The fair, which opened on Monday (September 3) will be open for 3 days for visitors from Poland and around 30 foreign delegations from countries such as China, Brunei, Israel, Saudi Arabia or Mexico.
Polish Foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski attended the fair and was presented with latest products of the Polish arms industry.
President Bronislaw Komorowski was also present and watched a presentation by Polish troops.
Organisers boast the Kielce fair to be the largest such event in Europe and say it is intended not only for manufacturers and buyers, but also soldiers are welcome to have a peek at newest trends in military equipment.
"MSPO (International Defense Industry Fair) is the first largest in Europe. Of course, MSPO is kind of window, let's say for Polish companies to the whole World, because we invite many foreign delegations on the very high level and also it's the window for the soldiers who can visit and see the modern solutions prepared by the companies for them," said deputy director of the fair Katarzyna Prostak.
Apart from the trade ground, the fair also hosts conferences and presentations of newest trends in the industry.
One of Poland's key partners in military trade is India, a buyer of military hardware since the 1970's.
"We are not here to buy anything immediately, because it takes time to happen, to sell to them, but Poland has a lot of technology and know-how available for upgrading old Russian equipment, as India has also," explains Chetan Seth.
Sergei Sikorsky, the son of aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky, visited the fair, where the a model of the Blackhawk helicopter manufactured in the Polish factory Mielec was being presented. Sikorsky talked about the newest project of his father's company, Sikorsky Aircraft Corp, the X.2
"We are also at the same time going into the future with the X2 helicopter, which right now unofficially holds the Worlds speed record. It is a coaxial design that is with two rotors one on top of another, rotating in opposite direction and it also has a pusher propeller at the rear. With this combination we have now reached 430 kilometers an hour cruising speed," Sikorsky said.
Visitors at the fair could also get a hands-on experience with the products and military gear and clothing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
