- Story Text: Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff paid an official visit to Bulgaria, the birth place of her father, and was greeted by her Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Parvanov on Wednesday, October 5 in the capital Sofia.
It is the first ever official visit by the Brazilian president to Bulgaria.
Rousseff attended an official welcome ceremony on Alexander Nevksy square and laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
After the ceremony, Rousseff attended talks with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, which focused on ways to boost relations between the two countries.
At a joint news conference, Rousseff and Parvanov stressed the importance of the visit for their two countries.
"This visit is eagerly expected, emotional but also fruitful for us Bulgarians," said Parvanov.
"I am so excited and moved by my first visit to Bulgaria, which was my father's country. I am surrounded by signs of love from all people here, which makes me feel connected because of my genes and the memory of my father," said Dilma Rousseff.
On October 6, on the second day of her visit to Bulgaria, Dilma Rousseff plans to visit Gabrovo, the birth place of her father, Bulgarian emigrant Petar Rusev. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
