- Story Text: Britain's first female Typhoon pilot has been flying active missions over Libya. A group of Typhoon's are currently based at the Italian air base at Gioia del Colle.
Britain's first female Typhoon pilot Flight Lieutenant Helen Seymour flew out of the Italian air base of Gioia del Colle on Wednesday (March 23) to help enforce a no-fly zone over Libya.
Flight Lieutenant Seymour is normally based out of RAF Coningsby in the UK but is part of a group of British Typhoon and Tornado jets that have changed base to Italy in an effort to decrease flight time as they carry out their sorties.
Armed Typhoon jets were seen leaving the base on Thursday (March 24) but information relating to the aims of missions are usually withheld ahead of flights.
British female pilots have flown Tornado and Harrier jets in action over Afghanistan but Flight Lieutenant Seymour is the first woman to fly a Typhoon. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
