- Story Text: Following a tour of Japan, Michael Jackson flies into London amongst crowds fans, press and security. Pop icon Michael Jackson arrived at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday evening (March 14) on the heels of his second visit to Japan in less than a year.
Jackson had visited thousands of U.S. troops and their families stationed in Japan, signing autographs and mingling with crowds.
He also met with some die hard fans - anyone willing to pay 400,000 yen (3,400 U.S. dollars) had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the superstar as well as being treated to a full meal with champagne.
Other Jackson fans paid a relatively modest 15,000 yen (130 USD) per head in the event where Jackson talked to all attendees.
Jackson did not sing or dance during any of his Japan appearances.
The reason for his UK visit isn't yet known, and Jackson wasn't answering any questions from the press at the airport.
Since being acquitted of child molestation charges at a trial that ended in June 2005, Jackson has mostly kept a low profile, spending time in Bahrain and Ireland.
In November, he sang at an awards ceremony in London, his first public performance since the trial, but his efforts were panned by critics. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
