- Story Text: Bulgaria and Serbia discuss plans to cooperate on a highway through Serbia which will allow better connections between Bulgaria and Europe.
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov met with his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic on Wednesday (November 19), during a one-day visit to the Serbian capital Belgrade.
High on the agenda during the discussions between the Serbian and Bulgarian delegations was Corridor Ten, an international highway which will link Salzburg in Austria to Thessaloniki in Greece. The road will travel through Serbia and have a branch to Bulgaria.
The delegations discussed cooperation in the building of the highway.
"Serbia has decided that during the mandate of this government the highway through Serbia which is part of Corridor Ten will be finished and that Bulgaria will be connected via Serbian roads with Hungary, with Croatia and with Macedonia," Tadic said at a news conference following the meeting.
Corridor Ten will allow Bulgaria to have improved connections with Europe.
"I salute this project. We already have some plans and that's proof that we have been working on this," Parvanov told the news conference.
The two delegations also discussed economic cooperation and the situation in Kosovo.
The presidents were then expected to attend a friendly football game between Serbia and Bulgaria at Partizan Belgrade stadium on Wednesday evening. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
