- Story Text: Tijuana's Archbishop Francisco Moreno presided over an open-air Mass near the formidable border fence on Saturday (November 19), saying that Mexico is bigger than any of the challenges facing it.
He celebrated the Mass at sunset with dozens of Tijuana residents who looked on the border fence that divides families and extends into the sea, calling on them to show solidarity with migrants living in the United States.
"Today, we have come here, next to this wall that separates two peoples, to commend our migrant brethren," he said.
Moreno presided over the Mass during which he blessed a statue of the country's patron saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe, which will be left behind, close to the border, so both Mexican residents and migrants living on the other side can pray to her.
He warned that challenging times laid ahead but reminded the faithful that Mexico was bigger than any challenge.
"We are a great people, a great nation and we should value ourselves and prepare ourselves for any challenges that come before us. This is just one more challenge and Mexico is much bigger than its obstacles. We will move forward with our relationships with all peoples of this Earth and with the United States which is also a great people and with whom we want to live in brotherhood," Moreno added.
