- Story Text: One miner was killed and fifteen were injured on Saturday (March 14) when methane gas exploded in a coal mine near central Bosnian town of Zenica.
One miner is still in a life-threatening condition while others suffered from burns and have breathing problems.
After the explosion the miners who were not seriously injured rushed to help their colleagues who were directly hit by blast.
"We were hit by a blast and when we realized what had happened we ran to the place of the explosion. There were people there and we went to see what happened to them.
When we got there, we started helping them out," said Adilovic Hazim who was working in a pit at the time of accident.
A doctor at a hospital in Zenica where the injured miners were taken confirmed the death and injury toll.
"What we can say at the moment is that we have received 15 injured people, eight of whom suffered from burns and breathing problems, are in a ward providing urgent medial care. One patient's condition is life threatening. He is in the intensive care ward. Five others remain in the surgical ward. Regrettably one miner was killed," Dr. Alma Mekic-Abazovic, told Reuters.
