- Story Text: You know you are a 'someone' in the fickle world of celebrity when Madame Tussauds immortalises you in wax, and the London museum have bestowed just that honour on Hollywood teen heartthrob Zac Efron by unveiling his wax-work figure in London on Thursday (October 9).
Talking to Reuters Television at the unveiling of Efron's statue, Madame Tussauds PR Manager, Liz Evans said, "Zac Efron is a new heart-throb, High School Musical 3 is a huge experience here. It is interactive, he is a heart-throb and I think he very rightly deserves a place here at Madame Tussauds London."
20-year-old Efron has been part of one of Disney Corporation's most successful franchise, propelling the boy wonder to the heights of mega-stardom.
"He is amazing, I love him, said Patricia Possollo a dancer from Storm model agency. "He is huge. Especially with our age range, the younger lot, everyone loves him. You mention his name and all the girls melt."
Dressed in 'Wildcats' kit, Zac Efron's wax figure currently stands alone in a private interactive locker-room where visitors to the attraction can get up close and personal to the star.
"We have got a whole interactive locker room so you can go in the lockers, so you can search through Sharpay or Gabriella's locker, or you can shoot hoops as you would with Troy, so it is a whole experience and we have got similar experiences throughout the whole attraction," Edwards says.
For fans of the film, Efron's down to earth boyish charms as Troy make him such a dream star.
"It's his eyes," Possollo says. His dimples go a long way for the dancer too.
Invited to the set of High School Musical 3 in Utah, the Tussauds' design team took some 300 photographs and 150 separate body measurements of Efron before starting work on creating the wax statue. Four months later and at a cost of 150,000 GBP, the Tussauds team, were ready to unveil the waxwork to the public ahead of the global release of the film.
However 'Senior Year' will be the last of the High School Musical films that Efron will take part in. Speaking to the media at the London film premiere October 7, Efron announced that he would not be reprising the role of Troy.
"This will be the last one. We're all in our senior year and have graduated."
