A French court confirmed Jean-Marie Le Pen's suspension from the far-right National Front party on Thursday (November 17) but allowed him to remain honorary president of the party he founded, which is now headed by his daughter Marine Le Pen.
The court rejected a bid by Jean-Marie Le Pen to be reintegrated into the party but recognised his status of honorary president, according to his lawyers.
The eviction of 88-year-old Jean-Marie Le Pen was decided on Aug. 20, 2015 on his daughter's impulse.
It is yet another episode of a long family feud which started when he reiterated his view that Nazi gas chambers were a mere "detail" of World War Two.
Marine Le Pen - now running for next year's presidential election in which she is expected to reach the second round - has been trying to shake off her father by persuading him to retire from politics. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
