- Story Text: Proving that big is beautiful, plus-sized models have strutted the catwalk at the Fall 2003 Lane Bryant fashion show.
New York City's Fall Fashion Week got it's unofficial start tonight (February 4) as the full-figured gals of Lane Bryant took to the runaway.
The plus-sized clothier paraded its new fall 2003 line of lingerie.
Comedian and television star Rosanne Bar got the evening started joking about the audience's common features. She said, "Any fat people here? I forgot to ask that. I'm the queen of all the fat people."
Meanwhile on the catwalk, voluptuous spokes-models revealed their curves with flirty lingerie.
Giving the gaunt models of fashion week a run for their money, these women proved that big is beautiful; they strutted their stuff in sheer, silky intimates.
Lane Bryant's fall design spans a wide range of taste and design, from elegant Asian inspired gowns to the classic black negligee.
Kia Tyler was queen of the fashion show, appearing more on stage than any other model.
Lane Bryant helped to boost the career of the now famous full-figured gal.
"Lane Bryant is the one that gave me my start, so I kind of owe it to them to do their shows," said Tyler.
"I mean, it's fun anyway.
They're the ones that gave me my very first job so it's been an ongoing event and, I like to walk around in underwear, so why not do it and get paid for it."
Lane Bryant has designed for plus-sized women for over 100 years. Model Kate Dillon sees the show as a celebration of the "real" woman. She said, "It's like we're all here starving ourselves trying to walk down the runway and trying to look so perfect, this cultural ideal. We're really celebrating ourselves and celebrating women and saying you know, be yourself. Be healthy, watch what you eat, work out, but if you're not perfect, it doesn't matter."
Perfection or not, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
And with the style and attitude these models showed on the runway, they were truly gorgeous. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
