- Story Text:Candles and flowers were laid across sites in Paris on Sunday (November 13) on the one year anniversary of the city's November attacks.
In all, 130 people were killed on November 13, 2015 when groups of gunmen and suicide bombers attacked the perimeter of the Stade de France sports stadium, the Bataclan theatre and a string of six bars and cafes: La Belle Equipe, Le Petit Cambodge, Le Carillon, A la Bonne Biere, Casa Nostra, and Le Comptoir Voltaire.
Crowds gathered outside the various sites, where French President Francois Hollande and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo had unveiled a series of commemorative plaques earlier on Sunday.
"I wanted to be there today because it makes you put life's worries into perspective, you forget about them. And I think of all those people who died, all those people with permanent injuries, all those shattered families. And I don't only think of the Bataclan, sadly there were other attacks and other people. I wanted to be there today to commemorate that and to share a moment of solidarity with others," Anna, who had come to pay her respects, told Reuters Television.
Student Bryan from Besancon had prolonged his weekend in Paris especially to pay homage to the victims.
"It was really important for me because it's above all our generation that was affected by these attacks, young people, even if there were also older people, but it was mainly our generation which was targeted: a generation that wants to make the most of life that wants to live. It affected me, and I am there to pay homage to the 130 victims," the 21-year-old said.
Parisians were expected to later form a human chain from Place de la Republique, a site that has become a hub for mourning since France's spate of Islamist attacks, and the Bataclan theatre in memory of those killed. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
