- Story Text:French citizens came out on the drizzly streets of Paris on Sunday (November 13) to pay homage to victims of the November attacks on the anniversary of the killings.
In all, 130 people were killed on November 13, 2015 when groups of gunmen and suicide bombers attacked the perimeter of the Stade de France sports stadium, the Bataclan and a string of six bars and cafes: La Belle Equipe, Le Petit Cambodge, Le Carillon, A la Bonne Biere, Casa Nostra, and Le Comptoir Voltaire.
The sites of the attacks were reinforced by a heavy police presence on Sunday, with security perimeters installed and passers-by having their bags checked.
Frenchman Cedric Koziol had travelled to Paris from Perigueux in southwest France especially to remember the victims with his two young children.
"Yes, we came for that, from the southwest, because it's important. It's an event which marked a change in our future, I think. So it was important to come with my children, to come and reflect, to show them, to explain to them what happened. And then to reflect, for all the victims who were affected by this tragedy," he told Reuters Television.
Christiane and Guillaume Guillot had travelled to Paris from Doubs, and said the first thing they wanted to do when arriving in the city was pay homage to the victims.
"When an event on this scale happens, I think it's necessary for all the population, the entire nation to feel affected and to come here to support the victims, so that it never happens ever again," Guillaume Guillot said.
Earlier on Sunday, French President Francois Hollande and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo unveiled a series of commemorative at each of the bars and cafes targeted by the Islamist militants.
Responsibility for the killings was claimed by the Islamic State group, which has called on its followers to attack France due to its involvement in the fight against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
