- Story Text: Hollywood veteran Clint Eastwood was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award (February 29) to acknowledge more than 40 years both in front and behind the camera.
Movie stars from Donald Sutherland to Faye Dunaway attended The American Film Institute's award in Los Angeles, presented by last year's honore, director Stephen Spielberg.
Eastwood has starred in more than 50 films, many of which he also directed and produced.
His long career bore fruit in 1992 when the actor won the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for his gritty western "Unforgiven." In 1995, Eastwood won acclaim for his drama "The Bridges of Madison County," for which co-star Meryl Streep has gained a nomination for Best Actress.
The AFI tribute was hosted by Jim Carrey, who worked with Eastwood back in the 1988 Dirty Harry installment "The Dead Pool".
Other guests included Lauren Holly, Don Rickles, Quincy Jones, Robert Wagner, Rob Reiner, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, and Dustin Hoffman.
The American Film Institute is dedicated to advancing and preserving the art of film, television and other forms of the moving image.
Some of Eastwood's other notable films include "Play Misty For Me", "Dirty Harry", "Magnum Force" and "Sudden Impact" in which he played tough-guy cop Harry Callahan. He is also widely known for his roles in Sergio Leone westerns "A Fistful of Dollars," "The Good the Bad and the Ugly," and "Hang 'em High." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
