- Story Text: Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's youngest son Kim Aris left Myanmar on Tuesday (November 7) after reuniting with his mother.
The 33-year-old Aris walked next to his mother at the Yangon International Airport while greeting supporters.
He was returning to his hometown in the United Kingdom after visiting his mother on November 23, their first meeting after a decade of separation.
Aris was granted a Myanmar visa in Bangkok days after his mother was released from house arrest on November 13.
Suu Kyi said she was happy to see her son again as he last came to see her in April 1999.
"I'm sad that my son has left, but I am very satisfied that I've reunited and spent some time with my son," said Suu Kyi.
Suu Kyi, 1991 Nobel laureate and daughter of assassinated national hero General Aung San, has been the leader for the fight for democracy in Myanmar.
Her National League for Democracy, won the country's 1990 elections by a landslide but was never allowed to take up seats in parliament.
She has been under some form of detention for 15 of the past 21 years until she was released last month. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
