- Story Text: The Duke of Cambridge presented veteran broadcaster, Sir David Attenborough, with an award on Sunday (November 13) for his outstanding contribution to broadcasting.
Attending the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2016 at London's Old Vic theatre, Prince William presented British naturalist Attenborough with the Beyond Theatre award, for excellence away from the platform of live performance.
"I'm delighted to be here this evening as the clear warm up act for the rest of the night. Thank you Evgeny, it's extremely kind of you. The recipient of a particular award tonight has shaped the culture of this country and the way we look at the world," Prince William said.
Evening Standard owner Evgeny Lebedev co-hosted the awards with British musician, Sir Elton John.
Theatre production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picked up the award for best play, which was co-written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, writer Jack Thorne, and director John Tiffany.
The Harry Potter play opened last July in London.
A total of thirteen awards were given for theatre performances over the last year including best actor to Ralph Fiennes for his performance in the Master Builder and Richard III theatre productions, and best actress to Billie Piper for her performance in Yerma. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
