- Story Text: The Liangtanasarn family marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a ceremony at a temple outside Bangkok on Saturday (Septemember 10).
Orasri Liangtanasarn(pron: Or-ra-si liang-ta-na-sarn) was one of thousands who lost their lives in the attack in New York a decade ago.
The 26-year-old who had just finished college was an administration assistant at a rooftop restaurant on Tower A of the World Trade Center which was hit by a hi-jacked plane The years have worn the edge off the family's grief at losing Orasri, but the story of what happened has been passed down to family members who were too young to remember that fateful day.
"It made a member of my family die and it made us lose a loved one," said Rujiya Liangtanasarn (pron: ru-ji-ya liang-ta-na-sarn),10, Orasri's niece who was born just a month before the attack.
On the eve of the 10th anniversary the Liangtanasarn family gathered at a temple in Nakorn Nayok province After praying, the family offered boxes of household necessities such as medicines, soap and shampoo to the monks as Thai Buddhists believe these gifts can help the dead to have a better after life.
Sunday marks the tenth anniversary of the attacks in which more than 2,700 died and thousands more were injured or missing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
