  • Story Text: Animated character SpongeBob SquarePants makes history is it becomes the first animated personality to be immortalized in wax.
    For his 10th anniversary, New York's famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum gave the cartoon character its very own wax figure as a birthday present.
    Fans of the personality can interact with the bright yellow talking sponge thanks to the special exhibit at the museum.
    Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob's porous exterior, talks about the waxen birthday gift.
    Said Kenny, "I knew that it was a funny cartoon but you never know how things are going to go. I mean you can't visualize it, that people from far corners of the world are going to be wearing back SpongeBob packs you know, on top of their burkhas."
    Rosemary DelPrado is the Director of Marketing for Madame Tussauds.
    Said DelPrado, "SpongeBob is part of pop culture and its his tenth anniversary so its great for the celebration to have this figure."
    SpongeBob's birthday festivities continue through July with special appearances all over New York and San Diego .
