- Story Text: Paris Hilton has cut short a scheduled appearance at Munich's Oktoberfest on Monday (September 25) after being swamped by cameras.
Some 40 photographers and several television crews tried to get a glimpse of the hotel heiress drinking from a one litre beer glass known as "Mass."
According to the official plan set out by organisers "Rich Prosecco," Hilton's latest brand she was trying to promote, the glamour girl was meant to pose with a "Mass" inside one of the 14 beer tents.
But Hilton changed her mind when she saw the crowd of photographers and left the tent, only to be surrounded by yet more people, this time fans -- and more photographers.
Her friend Kim Kardashian and her manager Jason Moore, wearing a felt hat decorated with chamois hair, stood by her side as Hilton was trying to read a new message on her handheld computer.
After a few minutes, Paris Hilton disappeared in a limousine and was whisked away.
Original plans to promote Hilton's sparkling wine were dropped after organisers of her trip were told of the ban to promote anything at the Oktoberfest other than the beer brands officially sold at the world's biggest folk festival.
Visitors are expected to once again consume millions of litres of beer and hundreds of thousands of sausages during the 18-day celebration.
Merrymakers last year downed 6.1 million litres of beer and devoured 479,610 roast chickens and 55,913 knuckles of pork.
More than six million visitors are expected to attend this year.
Although many visitors come from abroad, it is a highlight for many Bavarians who turn out in traditional lederhosen and low-cut "dirndl" dresses.
Paris Hilton opted to make her Oktoberfest appearance -- albeit a quick one -- in a gold-coloured dirndl made by Munich dirndl designer Lola Paltinger.
These days the festivities tend to turn rowdy in the evenings with drinkers yelling, thumping the tables and lunging at passers-by. Many foreign tourists can't stomach the large quantities of specially-brewed beer. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
