  • Story Text: Kanye West joined 30 Seconds To Mars on stage for a surprise performance at MTV's free concert for the people of Madrid as part of the Europe Music Awards on Sunday (November 7).
    The rapper joined the band's lead singer Jared Leto in a cameo appearance at the Spanish capital's historic Puerta de Alcala.
    Katy Perry made her first public appearance since getting married to Russell Brand earlier this month. The pop star donned a glittering red leotard as she debuted the world premiere of her new single "Fireworks". The singer literally lit up the stage with a dazzling fireworks display all around her and into the sky.
    U.S. rockers Linkin Park brought the house down after they won a the Best Live Act.
    Backstage, the band said they were happy to perform for their own fans instead of playing with the rest of the artists at the main show.
    "We kind of lucked out on this performance as well as the VMAs (Video Music Awards) in the US. Being able to play in front of our fans, rather than in a building with a bunch of our peers around us where we're going (clapping) 'we're totally better than they are'. So it's a better advantage to have that, to have a crowd like you saw outside for sound-check. It's not a bunch of kids with stagehands and stuff going 'Okay, pretend that you love this band!'," joked Chester Bennington.
    When asked about the newly married Perry and Brand, Bennington passed along congratulations.
    "Katy, I'm sorry but Russell really good job," he said.
    Nearly 90,000 people gathered in the Plaza de Independencia to watch the free gig put on the music network.
