- Story Text: Latino star Antonio Banderas and Academy Award Winner Catherine Zeta- Jones have joined forces again for "The Legend of Zorro". The Hollywood stars walked the red carpet in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (October 16) for the film's premiere.
Spanish actor Antonio Banderas said donning the famous mask again and stepping back into the role, seven years after the original film "The Mask of Zorro", made him very emotional.
"I almost cried, it was an emotional moment. I like this guy he is way better then me that is why I like performing as him," Banderas said with wife actress Melanie Griffith at his side.
Banderas plays the Mexican hero and swashbuckling legend in the latest episode, which hits screens October 28. "The Legend of Zorro," the follow-up to 1998's "The Mask of Zorro" gave the actor the rare opportunity to play a diverse role which straddles comedy, adventure and romance. The 45-year-old heartthrob, discovered by Pedro Almodovar in the 1980s, is getting behind the camera again in November to film "El Camino de los Ingleses" (The Way of the English).
Banderas made his name in Hollywood in the mid-1990s with roles in "Interview with the Vampire" and "Philadelphia."
He says Hollywood has given him the opportunity for more diverse roles than he would ever have had in Spain, even starring in Broadway musical "Nine" for which he was nominated for a Tony award.
Welsh actress Catherine Zeta- Jones co-stars with him again in the new chapter, under the orders of Martin Campbell and with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. "Guys do not know what it is like to a girl. I had a corset that was pinching me everywhere restricting my rib cage to the minimum capacity of breathing. How I did not hyperventilate I have no idea. But it is like having a baby the pain goes away when you see the finished product," Zeta- Jones said.
Zeta- Jones won an Oscar for her role in the musical "Chicago" and is married to veteran actor Michael Douglas. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
