- Story Text: Rafael Nadal, who won the U.S. Open 2010 last week arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday (September 21), after becoming the world's youngest player to win all four tennis Grand Slam championships.
Nadal arrived in Thailand for 'a rest' a week ahead of his first match of the ATP tournament on September 30. The final match of the event is scheduled on October 3.
Joining Nadal at the PTT Thailand Open 2010 will be former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro, Olympic champion Fernando Gonzalez of Chile and Ernests Gublis, along with other renown players.
Before he plays his first match in Bangkok, Nadal will participate in an environment campaign in the seaside resort town of Hua Hin, in an anti-global warming project.
"This is good. Thai fans have been waiting for Nadal for over two years. This is the third year that we invited him and he finally comes and brings his great honor as world top tennis player. His arrival will motivate development of tennis in Thailand, and he also bring his happiness to Thailand. And more importantly Nadal brings good tourism image to the country," said Executive Committee Chairman Khun Suwat Lipatapanlop.
The tournament itself will start on September 25, but the official opening will be on September 30, during which Nadal will play the first match. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
