- Story Text: More than 800 migrants were brought safely to Catania port in Eastern Sicily on Sunday (November 6) after being rescued in the Mediterranean Sea.
They were on board the medical aid charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) ship the Bourbon Argos which is part of a fleet of ships run by non-governmental organisations to assist the Italian Coastguard and Navy in their search and rescue operations.
Emergency workers set up a temporary reception centre at the port to process the arrivals.
The migrants were picked up from 13 rubber dinghies, two small boats and one large vessel in 16 separate rescue operations.
More than 4,200 have died or disappeared trying to cross the the Mediterranean from North Africa this year, the International Organization for Migration estimates. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
