- Story Text: Taiwan's biggest condom manufacturer, Taiwan Fuji Latex, will soon open a tourism factory to educate the public on condom production and contraceptives.
A factory-turned museum will soon open in Taiwan to educate the public everything about condoms.
Taiwan's biggest condom manufacturer, Taiwan Fuji Latex Company Ltd., said on Wednesday (July 24) that a Condoms Discovery Center will officially open to public on August 22, 2013 in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
The center will showcase the condom inflation test, the electronic pinhole inspection machines, and a production line that controls condom quality.
Established in 1973, Taiwan Fuji Latex Company Ltd. played a major role in the Taiwanese government's campaign for family planning during the population boom in the 1980s.
It was the largest condom distributor to healthcare centers, pharmacies and local convenience stores, the company's President Steven Yu said.
However, the business was faced with a challenge when Taiwan's birthrate dropped.
"Since the government changed its family control policy, our 40-year-old factory was about to move out of Taiwan two years ago. But the New Taipei City's Economic Development Department helped us to keep our business in Taiwan by turning the factory into an innovative tourism spot, so we established the first condom tourism factory in Taiwan," Yu said.
The factory was transformed into a museum for people to learn about how to use condoms in preventing venereal diseases, especially when these diseases are spreading among young people.
"We want to keep our roots in Taiwan and educate the young people about how to protect themselves and love their partner. This is our goal and responsibility," Yu said.
The center is open for group appointments from Monday to Friday, with 200 TWD (6.68 USD) entrance fee for adults and 150 TWD (5.01 USD) for students more than 12 years old. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
