- Story Text: Turkey's leading pop star Tarkan was brought to court on Monday (March 1), following his detention during an anti-drug sting in Turkey's largest city Istanbul. Tarkan was taken into custody on Friday (February 26) for alleged links with two suspected drug dealers who have been monitored by police for six months.
Police found a small amount of hashish in Tarkan's country home, state-owned Anatolian news agency reported.
According to news reports, the 37-year old singer admitted during police questioning that he uses cocaine.
Tarkan was released by prosecutors after being questioned for two hours.
German-born Tarkan was known as Turkis pop idol. He became popular in the late 1990s and has sold millions of records.
His catchy song "Simarik" (Spoiled) reached top of music charts in Germany and France. Later on, "Simarik" was reincarnated into English as "Kiss Kiss" by Stella Soleil and later Holly Valance. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
