- Story Text: GQ magazine marked its tenth Man of the Year issue with a star- studded celebration in Los Angeles, California on Thursday (December 1) with its first cover devoted to a woman.
Jennifer Aniston, who was in attendance, received the honor as well as actor Vince Vaughn and rapper 50 Cent two other cover subjects this year .
"I was kind of truthfully blown away by it I thought it was 'How do you feel?' I feel great. I was very happy and very flattered," Aniston said.
The magazine says it just a coincidence that Aniston was chosen in the same year as Vaughn. The two are reportedly romantically linked, after the collapse of Aniston's marriage to Brad Pitt.
"Well obviously 50 Cent quite amazing story, and Jennifer as well extremely talented actress so yeah both those guys and I see Joaquin is in the issue here very good. Terrence Howard a fantastic young actor so yeah I am in good company," Vaughn said.
The magazine said they chose Aniston because in the glare of her public breakup, she was 'dignified and graceful and respectful of the five years of marriage' that she did have. 'Friends' of the star like Courtney Cox Arquette raved about how attractive the actress, who wore nothing but a simple smile and jean shorts, looked on the glossy cover.
"I think she looks so beautiful. I think she looks like she is wearing very little make up and her hair looks fantastic and her body is amazing. That is just really rare that you can be that beautiful without any make up or very little. She is just gorgeous," Cox Arquette said before going in to celebrate.
From actors to extraordinary heroes, GQ honored their most unforgettable men. Including Terrence Howard for his breakout role in "Hustle & Flow and Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman who is surrounded by Oscar buzz for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in "Capote".
"It seems to me they are kind of making a comment on the culture in the country in the past politically, artistically, and musically, actors, also athletically and also just politically with Katrina and Ted Koppel that seems to be what is making it up especially when so much about this time of year when everything is about movies this is good," said Hoffman about this years list of "Men Of The Year".
Also gracing the magazine this year is 'Heroes of the Hurricane: Katrina Saviors' including Juan Parke from the Carrollton section of uptown New Orleans who found a canoe to cut across town. Parke pulled many of his trapped neighbors out of their houses to safety, including one old woman whose heart was giving out as he was arriving.
Word of Parke's heroism spread fast, and before long, displaced Carrollton residents were text-messaging him requests to look after their pets or patch up their roofs. He obliged, almost losing a finger to an untreated infection in the process.
"I ended up staying in my area and rescuing people. I ended up saving 20 people, 7 dogs, nine cats" said Parke before going inside to celebrate.
Out of the post- Katrina situation came six little kids, none older than 2, being led to safety up Causeway Boulevard in New Orleans by another child, Deamonte Love, only 6 years old himself.
Nobody knew where their parents were, and until they could be found, it was up to Derrick Robertson and other members of the Baton Rouge Big Buddy program to make sure they were taken care of. Deamonte immediately took to Robertson, and for the four days before he was reunited with his family, they were best friends, playing hide-and-seek, joking around. Finally, Deamonte's mother found him on a lost-children Web site and other children soon reconnected with their families as well.
"There were 7 people who were separated from their parents during the hurricane. One of which is only 6 years old was kind of hero himself and continued to be a hero in this whole entire situation as it becomes bigger and larger and more surreal each day he is going to continue to be a hero. Amongst the other children were one and two year old children as well as four month old baby he was responsible for. We went and picked them up and took care of them until their parents were located," Robertson said with a big smile. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
