- Date: 17th December 2010
- Summary: BERLIN, GERMANY (DECEMBER 16, 2010) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (English) "BURLESQUE" ACTRESS, CHRISTINA AGUILERA, SAYING: "Well, in all honesty, all the songs that were coming in for the movie sucked. And -- I told Steven, like, I have to be involved in writing this music, I have such a love and a passion for throwback, 20s, 30, 40s-style inspired music. I did a whole album called Back to Basics that toyed around with modernising old horn sounds and combining the two into a modern-day sort of twist which I thought was perfect for this movie and the Burlesque Club."

- Story Text: Renowned singer and Oscar winning actress Cher is in Germany together with Christina Aguilera to promote their musical film "Burlesque," the tale of a small-town girl in search of persueing her dreams in Los Angeles.
Christina Aguilera and Oscar winning actress Cher spoke about good music, relationships and who inspired them during a visit to Germany on Thursday (December 16) to promote their movie "Burlesque" which is nominated for a Golden Globe.
During a news conference at a Berlin hotel, Christina Aguilera expressed admiration for Cher whom she called "an icon".
"She is just such a strong woman and forced to be reckoned with in this business that stood the test of time and I can only look up to that," Aguilera said.
Aguilera also said how she and Cher "had many times, off set... some nice girl talk -- I won't say what, but we did sometimes talk about love and relationships and just life in general and just her energy that she exuted really inspired me and taught me a lot."
Cher in turn, asked whether it was Mae West who inspired her, broke out in laughter.
"No, I actually was inspired by myself," Cher said, adding "I wasn't inspired by Mae West but you know what? I met Mae West once and she was something."
"I think we're all inspired by all the women that we've seen in our lives. I can go back to Barbara Stanwyck or Judy Garland. All those people inspire us and then we, while we're doing the thing that we do, inspire other girls that are coming up, that think 'oh, I like that person, I'd like to do that.'"
According to 64-year-old Cher, "anyone you meet, that you respect or that touches your heart propels you into doing something else."
In the movie "Burlesque," Aguilera plays Ali, a small-town girl who decides to travel to Los Angeles in order to follow her dreams of becoming a star. She quickly lands a job as a cocktail waitress for the ailing Burlesque Lounge, which was once a lavish venue but has recently lost its popularity. Ali is enchanted by the dancers and performances and decides that she wants to be on the stage. But first, she must impress Tess, the owner of the lounge, played by Cher. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
