- Story Text: They are young, good looking and sing and dance and are set to send the hearts of girls racing. Meet The Wanted, the UK'S newest boy band, who have gone straight to number one with their debut single.
The boys, aged 17-23, answered a call for a boy band and after a mass auditioning, the final five were chosen by Geffen Records.
The Wanted are: Tom Parker, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness, Max George and former model Siva Kaneswaran.
At a gig by Disney for the studio's "My Camp Rock 2" reality television show, the boys performed before screaming fans, mostly girls but there were a few boys who attended as well.
When asked what they thought of going straight to the top with their first single, Max of The Wanted, said reality had not yet sunk in.
"To be honest we can't really get our heads around it because when we got told it was number one we were like, what? So we're literally trying to come down from somewhere up in the clouds where our heads are at the moment," he told Reuters Television.
The boys admitted the audition was a lengthy process but in the year the boys have been a band, they seemed to already form a tight bond.
"Long, really really long. Well it was over nine months and I was 15 when I started auditioning for it and we've come a long way since then so it's all good," said Nathan.
"Just to add that me and Jay came in the last two weeks of auditions and they saved the best for last," joked Siva.
"That's another way of looking at it, the two tall ones they needed at the back," Jay answered back.
The press have written extensively about Siva's recent meeting with pop star Rihanna. The Wanted and the singer performed at a concert over the summer.
"We met in a club and got talking and leave the rest to the magazines. I'm told to be quiet about this but a lot's happened," said Siva.
The band write many of their own songs and play instruments, in addition to singing and dancing. Since forming the boys live together in a flat in south London.
The band are currently gaining exposure by playing the rounds of UK night-clubs and their next single "Heart Vacancy" has yet to have a release date. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
