- Story Text: In her latest film, "Julie and Julia," Meryl Streep will make your mouth water. The leading lady channels chef Julia Child, America's first female culinary sensation.
Based on the bestselling memoirs "Julie & Julia" and "My Life in France," the film weaves the stories of two women and their passion for food.
Streep portrays Child in 1948, when she was an American living in France with her husband and just learning the basics of French cooking.
Child was a towering 6 foot 2, so taking on the culinary dynamo was no small feat for the 5 foot 6 actress.
Holding up a Christian Laboutin shoe, Streep says, "Here's the secret, right there, 5.5 inches, easy. Just wore high heels, but I also felt that it was important that her height formed some part of her identity and the decisions she made about herself and what will be will be."
Stanley Tucci, who plays Child's loving husband, says Streep's new found prominence, was a welcome change.
"There was an element of humor attached," says Tucci, "because she's walking on these apple boxes and we have to figure out, navigate our way around the set."
Amy Adams plays Julie Powell, a government worker and writer who is feeling aimless as she nears her 30th birthday. Powell decides to spend the next year cooking all 524 recipes in Child's book, "Mastering The Art of French Cooking," and then blogging about her experience.
The actress says when it came to eating all that delicious food, there were no holds barred.
"I fluctuated making this film it kind of depended what we were shooting but I definitely didn't worry about my waistline."
All in all Adams says she gained between 5 - 10 pounds, but isn't worried about taking it off.
These two remarkable stories about love and butter are bound to be a big hit when "Julie and Julia" opens in North American theaters on August 7th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
