- Story Text: At an astonishing 2.465 meters (8-foot-1), the Guinness World Record holder for tallest living man was in Rio de Janeiro Thursday (November 18) to mark Guinness World Records Day.
All cameras were pointed upward as the Turkish man, Sultan Kosen, entered the news conference to celebrate the day and also to promote the Guinness World Records 2011 book in which he is featured.
By the age of 20 Kosen became the youngest man to surpass 2.438 meters (8 feet), and that is just one more of his multiple records.
Now 27-years-old, Kosen also holds the Guinness World Record for the largest feet, 927.1 centimetres (36.5 inches), and the biggest hands measuring 27.5 centimetres (10.83 inches) from wrist to the tip of his middle finger.
Now an international celebrity Kosen said it used to be difficult dealing with his height and people's reactions.
"I used to have to escape from people because they treated me really badly. They wouldn't speak to me in the last years. I got used to them and now it doesn't really bother me," Kosen said.
He says one of the hardest things now is finding clothes that fit him and getting his shoes specially made.
When he was young, doctors found a tumour that had damaged his pituitary gland causing a release of extra growth hormones.
He finally stopped growing after operating on the tumour in 2007. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
