- Story Text: Actors, directors and representatives of the film industry gathered to remember the late Federico Fellini on Friday (September 29) at a gala reception to inaugurate a seven-week audiovisual exhibition of the Italian film director's work.
The event was part of a multi-faceted programme, jointly sponsored by the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Film and Television Archives, the Italian Institute of Culture of Los Angeles and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Among the celebrities attending the gala were actor Donald Sutherland, who starred in Fellini's film "Casa Nova," and American director John Landis, whose films include,
"The Blues Brothers," "Animal House," and "Beverly Hills Cop." The exhibition includes hundreds of Fellini's production and costume design drawings, photographs, props, costumes, personal memorabilia, and artifacts.
Video and audio tapes and computer workstations will allow gallery patrons to explore the themes of Fellini's work and his humour, mystery, and philosophy.
The tribute to Fellini will also include "Tutto Fellini", a complete and chronological showing of the director's films at the UCLA Melnitz Theatre. All the prints of the films were newly struck and feature the latest fibre optic subtitling process.
Federico Fellini died in 1993. His films include "Ginger and Fred," "La Strada," "La Dolce Vita," and "8 1/2." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
