Summary:When the Soviet Union had crushed the Hungarian uprising, they backed a new government in Budapest led by Janos Kadar. In the next four years, Kadar followed policies in line with Soviet thinking and was a key figure in bringing Hungary back firmly into Moscow's grasp. In 1951, Kadar had fallen foul of Stalin and had been thrown into prison but was rehabilitated in 1955.
