- Story Text: Actress Sarah Jessica Parker was among the many stars to walk the red carpet on Monday (September 12) for the premiere of her latest movie "I don't know how she does it," in New York.
The Sex and the City star was accompanied by husband and fellow actor Matthew Broderick.
In a pre-show interview Parker told Reuters what the movie is about.
"This is a story of modern parenthood. And modern parenthood is funny and it's heartbreaking and it's ridiculous and it's challenging and it's filled with triumphs and disappointments and I think it really accurately portrays what it is to be trying to juggle all things," Parker said.
Parker is in the role of Kate Reddy, a wife, mother and career woman. From the outside she seems to live a dream life with a loving husband, two adorable children and a job she loves as an investment manager.
But inside Kate is always anxious and hasn't had a good night sleep in years, with an expanding to-do list that only seems to be growing.
But everything kicks into a higher gear when her pitch for a new fund gets good feed-back, moving her juggling act onto the high-wire.
Parker, who is a mother of three, an actress and a business woman, said that she thinks other women have to work harder to balance everything than she does.
"I do far less well than most women in this country. I have the opportunities to dip in and out of work and most women don't have that choice to make. They're working because they have to, they go day in and day out to their work, year after year. And I don't think it's that extraordinary what I do," Parker said.
Actor Greg Kinnear was in the role of Parker's husband, Richard Reddy. It was the first time the duo worked together, and Kinnear said that they clicked, from the very first meeting.
"She's lovely. No she's great I had a great time with her and I've never worked with her before, never met her. We met in a hallway in New York City when it was snowing outside with half a cup of cold coffee and I was like 'Hey, how are you doing?' she was like 'hey, how are you doing, see you on the set,'" the Emmy-winner said.
Also in the lead role is Pierce "James Bond" Brosnan, who plays Parker's boss Jack Abelhammer with whom Parker spends a lot of time in New York for the preparation of their new fund. A charming widower but a loner, Abelhammer is attracted to Kate who shows him there is more to life than work.
Also at Kate's side is Momo Hahn, her brilliant junior colleague portrayed by actress Olivia Munn. While the two women are polar opposites, they are supportive of each other, which was important to Munn.
"What I love about the character is that we're two women who are completely different but we can be really supportive of each other and really be there for each other and I think that's - people always try to pit women against each other, and that's not a reality in my world. You can be two completely different women with two agendas and two different outlooks on life but still respect and support each other," she said.
Also gracing the scarlet carpet was the author of the original novel, Allison Pearson.
The award winning British author said that she was pleased with the outcome of the movie.
"I had so many thousands of women tell me their stories. So I hope the movie is a story for all women. I think all women will come and find something to relate," she said.
The novel has sold four million copies globally, and was translated into 32 languages.
The movie version will open widely in theaters on Friday (September 16). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
