  • Story Text: World Boxing Association Heavyweight Champion Nikolai Valuev will make the second defence of his title on October 7 against Monte Barrett of the USA in what co-promoter Don King dubbed on Wednesday (August 30) the 'Big Red October'.
    The seven feet tall (2.13 metre), 325-pound (147 kilo) 'Giant Russian' will face Barrett at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
    At a news conference in New York on Wednesday, King, who promotes Valuev with Germany-based Sauerland Event, said: "I think that it's going to be a tremendous outing here. This man has the possibility of unifying and the aura of what many can't many bring to the table. Why do I say that? Not only is he large in size, the heaviest man ever and the biggest man ever to hold the heavyweight title in the history of the sport of boxing. However, he's also undefeated."
    Valuev is the first Russian world heavyweight champion and has won 44 matches told the news conference the occasion would probably be the last at which he and Barrett smiled at each other...
    Barrett has won 31 fights and lost four, his best wins being back-to-back victories over previously undefeated contenders Dominick Guinn and Owen Beck in 2004 and 2005.
    The 225 pound (102 kilo) challenger said on Wednesday: "This is going to be a test for him and this is going to be a test for me as well. But I am willing to stand up to the test. I am 225 pounds, but my heart is 224 pounds, you know, so you all got to take that to the bank and also realise I've been in camp for five weeks, man, five weeks, I'm growling already. You know this is about David and Goliath you know. And I am taking this fight, not about no money, I am taking this fight -- it's about faith, you know?"
